Some extremely interesting stuff from this magazine, keep peeled.

Hot 8 Brass Band

If you like the sound of horns, if you like a swing to your beat and if you generally just love good music, give this an atleast-once-over. The Hot 8 Brass Band are a merger of two former bands, carrying a jazzy funk, hip-hop feel.

In case you need moar, have a link, a link and a link. They're also signed to Tru Thoughts, who have some (soon to be posted) amazing talent, also link.

Amon Tobin - Like Regular Chickens

This is relevant to my interests -- Amon Tobin (aka Cujo) from Ninja Tune with a tight experimental trip hop/downtempo number from 1998 with mashed up breaks. The sample's from David Lynch's mindfuck black and white film Eraserhead.

Sure, just cut em up like regular chickens.

Dillinja & Danny Breaks remixes

UPDATE

This tune was too good to leave out.

Roughcut - Amen Fire

Big jungle track from 2008. Seriously loving the raggamuffin styley.

RIP Sugar Minott

The legendary Jamaican reggae singer, producer and soundsystem operator Sugar Minott sadly passed away earlier this month leaving behind a veritable legacy of artists and recordings in his wake. Minott died on the 10th of July 2010 at the University Hospital of the West Indies in St. Andrew's Parish, Jamaica after being admitted there earlier that day.

Sugar Minott has always been one of the sweetest names in reggae and has done much to propel the scene forward, nurturing and giving public exposure to many talented up and coming stars such as Ranking Joe, Captain Sinbad and Ranking Dread through his Youth Promotion organisation. His Black Roots label featured productions of these artists plus others such as Tenor Saw, Little John, Barrington Levy and Horace Andy.

This is a huge blow for the reggae community and he will be sorely missed. Nonetheless, Sugar Minott's musical legacy lives on and is sure to keep the people dem dancing.

New Guy Blog is offering some free tunes for download in honour of his 41 year career. Make sure you check out his discography on Discogs and listen good, seen.

RIP, gone but never forgotten.

Actress

Actress. For few, he's been a leading figurehead of experimental sounds for a while. For many, he's re-made that title again in this passed year. His style refreshes, having the same sort of feel as some FlyLo tunes in the respect that you never know what the next sound used is going to be — nor do you know when it'll strike — you just know it'll fit.

If you want to know a tib-bit more about the man, I've added this interview from the Werk Records blog.

Freeizm vol. 2

Skream let's loose with yet more free shiz, be sure to check out 'Loafah - Indian Dub (Skreamix)'

Local Talent - Beerz

Local kid Beerz has been producing for a good few years (coming up to 4) warming up from just chopping up beats and mixing, he developed a classic dubstep sound into a more familiar, deep sub-rolling feel — sometimes even venturing into the realms of 160 bpm and upwards. Being one of the key DJ'ing names in Leeds' "Analog" night's and Manchester's "01:61", and having releases out in the coming summer on 'Sex Camp Recordings' he has more than proven himself as a talent you can't ignore.

Watch out for a few collabs (with Slof Man and Vivzy) soon to come on his soundcloud, and if neither of these have quenched your thirst, check out his mixcloud, it's reet full of goodies.

Graffiti & Shiz

If you're interested in a bit of the ol' urban art, head on down to Wooster Collective.
"The Wooster Collective was founded in 2001. This site is dedicated to showcasing and celebrating ephemeral art placed on streets in cities around the world."
As far as I'm aware, it's run by a couple in Soho (New York) and I really like their taste, I've been keeping up to date with it for some time and it is always worth the effort to inspect their posts.

They Call Me Cpt. Obvious

If you hadn't already heard (or heard of) this tune, you need pry your ear pieces from between your rear end. It's a massive tune, and I'm guessing it's already the soundtrack to a lot of people's summers. Both artists are renowned in what they do, Nas all but creating Hip-Hop and Rap & Damian 'Jr. Gong' Marley perpetuating the reggae and ragga feel his Dad helped to expose.
If this tickles your fancy, check out the rest of the album, Distant Relatives.

Free Track • Mount Kimbie - Field (Crooks And Lovers)

Juno Download are giving away 'Field' (a slow build up tune to an amazing chillout beat) from Mount Kimbie's new album - Crooks and Lovers. The offer only lasts a few more days, so get on it while you can!

Expect much more from me to do with Mount Kimbie in the future.

Have you heard: Bibio

I can't quite remember when I came accross Bibio first, sometime last winter when I heard Sugarette, one of the better tunes off of his 'Ambivalence Avenue' album.
He maintains an original style, always switching up the beats into something you wouldn't expect from where they start. A prime example of this is 'Fire Ant' off the same album, it keeps the 'laxed summer Hip-Hop vibes throughout but always sounds fresh.

The idea behind this, a place for those with proven similar tastes to show what they've been caught by recently. Inspired by a facebook page devoted to Dubstep, AURALNODE is a chance to fully appreciate the littler things on a larger scale.
